Here you can see the text used in the advertisements for Peer and Community Researcher roles at Migration Yorkshire published in May 2021.

To supplement the advertisements, we produced a short slide show with a voiceover.

Slide with the text 'Do you have an interest in research, and experience of migrating to the UK?', and image of a lightbulb made up of words, with 'research' as the most prominent, and the Refugee Integration Yorkshire and Humber and European UnionAsylum Migration and Integration Fund logos.

Peer Researcher job advertisement

Do you have experience of migrating to the UK? Are you interested in learning research skills and having the opportunity to use them in an exciting project? If so this role may be for you.

Peer research is conducted by people who have lived experience of the topic that is being researched. In this case that means that you will have experience of migrating to the UK.

You’ll be working on a project aiming to understand and improve how migrants settle into their new communities in Yorkshire and Humber. You will take part in a research training programme, and undertake research tasks in a supportive environment. You will be working closely with and supported by researchers from Migration Yorkshire and our research partners.

This is a part-time role, and we invite applicants to apply to work either 1, 2, 3 or 4 days per week.

You’ll need:

  • Personal experience of migrating to live in the UK
  • Familiarity with challenges faced by people with different migration statuses
  • A keen interest in research
  • Good command of written and spoken English

The post is funded through ‘Refugee Integration Yorkshire and Humber’ which provides comprehensive support to improve the integration of refugees, with a strategic approach and front-line services, underpinned by research, evidence and refugee participation.

The project is managed by Migration Yorkshire and delivered across the Yorkshire and Humber region through a partnership of statutory and third sector organisations. The project is part-funded by the European Union Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund.

Migration Yorkshire works with national government, local government, and others to ensure that Yorkshire and Humber can deal with, and benefit from, migration. Migration Yorkshire is hosted by Leeds City Council.

Migration Yorkshire recognises the value of involving people with lived experience of the research topic in the design and implementation of research, therefore we are looking for someone with experience of migrating to the UK.

You’ll be supporting the research work of Migration Yorkshire and its partners in the Refugee Integration Yorkshire & Humber project. Topics include social interaction between new migrants and local communities, isolation experienced by new migrants and an understanding of ‘wellbeing’ by different communities, and the housing pathways of refugees.

This is a full-time role, however applicants are welcome to apply to work 2.5 days a week.

You’ll need:

  • Good qualitative research skills
