Aims

The report for the Northern Refugee Centre provides an overview of the migrant population resident in Sheffield, United Kingdom.

Methodology

Secondary analysis of official data sources.

Key issues

The city’s recent and predicated future population increase is linked to migration into the city: the non-white population was 10.8% according to the 2001 Census while in 2005 Sheffield City Council estimated the proportion to be 13.3%.

Conclusions

The official data [Worker Registration Scheme and the National Insurance Number registrations] do not provide an indication of the concentration of the Accession 8 [A8] migrants within Sheffield.
