Aims

The paper explores how sport and leisure spaces are perceived by new migrants and how those interpretations may vary with time and processes of social change.

Methodology

A review of literature on sport and leisure spaces and related processes of social inclusion and exclusion.

Key issues

Inclusion and exclusion of migrant communities in sport and leisure spaces.

Conclusions

An understanding of how sport and leisure spaces affect people’s experience and also how they construct those spaces is necessary to inform policies and practices that could promote the development of mutual and shared spaces rather than disconnected multiple occupations of spaces.
