Migration Yorkshire supports people and organisations to achieve the most positive outcomes of migration for everyone in the Yorkshire and Humber region.
Migration Yorkshire provides leadership and coordination, evidence, and practical assistance to organisations from all sectors at local, regional and national level. We believe in improving understanding, supporting the integration of migrants and maximising opportunities for all to create a more equal and enriched society.
Migration Yorkshire is a partnership of councils working across the whole of the Yorkshire and Humber region and is based in Leeds.
What we do
Migration Yorkshire is a local authority-led partnership which works across the whole of the Yorkshire and Humber region. We are overseen by the Migration Yorkshire Board, which is comprised of members from all local authorities in the regions.
In our work we bring together partners from all sectors including local authorities, the Home Office and other government departments, health, police, universities, the private sector, the voluntary sector and refugee and migrant community groups.
We have four key roles:
- Strategic leadership and coordination in Yorkshire and Humber on migration issues - we convene and support the Strategic Migration Group, our main advisory and decision-making forum where local authorities, statutory agencies and the voluntary sector get together to discuss how migration impacts on our region and to agree ways forward. We provide strategic support in local areas and represent the views of the region to Government, providing leadership on migration issues at regional, national and European level.
- Data, policy, research and information - we provide regular analyses of migration statistics and trends to local authorities and other partners. We work with localities to provide timely and accurate data, regular policy briefings and ad hoc information and briefings on request. Our website is a key resource on migration in the region and includes a searchable database of all local research on migration.
- Expert support for local integration - we provide learning programmes and networks on key migration issues to help to develop and deliver services appropriately and effectively. Further support is provided on developing strategic functions and relationships, local planning and delivery.
-
Responding to change in migration policy and practice - we help local areas to understand and respond to new communities, through dedicated support, information and resources. We ensure strategic oversight and scrutiny of new asylum housing arrangements and changes to policies and protocols, involving local partners and negotiating on their behalf.
