Privacy notice for enquiries to the Hong Kong Welcome Programme

 

Who we are; why we collect your personal data and how we will handle it; your data rights

This privacy notice is primarily for Hongkongers and their family members in or arriving to the UK via British National (Overseas) visa route who are getting in touch with Migration Yorkshire. Migration Yorkshire leads on the Hong Kong Welcome Programme in Yorkshire and Humber and hosts the Hong Kong hub.

Our purposes for collecting your personal data

  • To respond to your enquiry.
  • To better understand the needs, characteristics and destination of the BN(O) status holders in Yorkshire and Humber, for effective delivery of the Hong Kong Welcome Programme.

How we'll look after your data

We'll store your personal data securely and handle it in line with UK data protection legislation.

1. Your name and contact details

We'll keep your name and contact details till we have answered your enquiry and for up to three months afterwards. We'll then securely delete it unless you’ve asked us to keep it for some reason. We will not share your name or contact details with other organisations unless you ask for us to do so.

2. Details of your enquiry

We will keep non-identifiable (anonymised or aggregated) details of your enquiry on an anonymous record: this record will list things such as:

  • The type and number of enquiries (by ‘type of enquiry’ we mean things such as enquiries about the right to work or about how to get a UK driving licence).
  • Anonymised information about enquirers (for example, your nearest town; your employment status; your age; number of dependants).

We share some of this anonymised data with:

  • Our funder, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (a government department) as part of our regular reporting to them.
  • Our funder, and other agencies locally and nationally, to help increase understanding of the needs of BN(O) status holders in the UK, and priorities and issues of BN(O) integration in the UK; and to help with planning services.

If you don’t want us to record anonymised details of your enquiry, please let us know and we will make sure we don’t record it.

Our legal basis for processing your personal data is public task under Article 6e of the UK GDPR legislation.
