Training

Training from Migration Yorkshire to support those working with refugees and asylum seekers.

Training for professionals and carers supporting unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) in Yorkshire and Humber

Welcoming and supporting young refugees training

An introductory session delivered by the Welcoming Young Refugees team, which explores some of the needs and challenges facing young refugees in the UK. The course will help you understand the terminology used around migration, the journeys and experiences young people may have had to reach the UK, some of the processes a young person may experience, and how we can respond to some of the challenges young refugees face.

It is aimed at foster carers, supported lodgings providers and social workers and supervising social workers who are supporting young refugees in Yorkshire and Humber.

Psychological first aid course for professionals and carers working with UASC

The session is suitable for social workers, supervising social workers, foster carers, supported lodgings providers, and other professionals working with and supporting UASC.

Develop an understanding of psychological and emotional behaviours resulting from significant single or complex traumas and an understanding of how to support UASC clients at the beginning of trauma recovery.

It will be run by Dzmitry Karpuk, specialist in trauma recovery psychotherapy for adults, children, and families, registered with the Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (AFT) and UK council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

Age Assessment Training

Whether you are new to conducting age assessments or would like to refresh your previous training, this Age Assessment training course will enable you to approach this work using up to date case law, best practice guidance and trauma-informed approaches. The training covers all aspects of the age determination process, from making decisions at initial points of contact, through to writing assessments that stand up to scrutiny.

The training is suitable for social workers and team conducting age assessments.

This training is delivered by Immigration Social Work Services ltd.

Age assessment: legal framework and best practice

This course is suitable for local authority social workers and supervising social workers working with and supporting Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children or trafficked children.

The sessions will set out the relevant legal processes in which these young people are involved – including the asylum process and the trafficking NRM - and how age impacts on these procedurally and substantively.
The training will be delivered by Just Right Scotland and takes place over two mornings.

Triple Planning training

This training supports Local Authority practitioners who are supporting UASC to understand the individual components of the triple planning process. It will help you to understand the new rules that have arisen from the Nationality and Borders Act 2022 and will help you to consider creative ways to meet the needs of young people within a complex immigration policy.

It is suitable for social workers, personal advisors, team managers, and local authority legal teams supporting UASC.

We recommend you take the Human Rights Assessment and Working with Young People who are Appeals Rights Exhausted training below. This is a half day training the day after the Triple Planning training.

The training is delivered by Immigration Social Work Services ltd

Human Rights Assessments and working with young people who are Appeal Rights Exhausted

This training supports Local Authority practitioners who are supporting UASC to legally discharge their responsibilities, taking you through the asylum process to final decisions on asylum claims. It is a unique approach that supports practioners to carry out their practice in way that promotes the safety of young people who become Appeal Rights Exhausted, by developing robust contingency plans.

It is suitable for social workers, personal advisors, team managers, and local authority legal teams supporting USAC.

We recommend that you take this training alongside the Triple Planning training above, which is run the day previous to this training.

The training is delivered by Immigration Social Work Services ltd
