The Young Migrants Matter project within PAFRAS are offering a training session to improve your practice of working with young people who are seeking asylum. The training is delivered by experienced caseworkers and has been co-produced with young people who access PAFRAS.
Please note that this is an in person session. PAFRAS caseworkers take time away from their direct work with young people to deliver this training course. If you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible as a courtesy to the case workers and their clients.
Audience
This training is for all professionals working with young people seeking asylum, including social workers, PAs, foster carers, supported lodgings providers, team managers, frontline professionals and volunteers. You must be based in the Yorkshire and Humber region.
The objectives for the training:
- The tools to challenge damaging and divisive myths about migration.
- An awareness of international refugee law and asylum journeys.
- An understanding of the asylum process in the UK and how to support young people through each stage
- An awareness of rights and entitlement of young people seeking asylum.
- An understanding of how the hostile environment harms communities and is detrimental to migrants.
- An action plan for helping young people you may be supporting who are seeking asylum/have an insecure immigration status.
