Why is participation important?
Participation can mean or include a range of different practices and concepts; it is difficult to pin down. However, we have listed the following aspects of participation:
- Refugees are being informed, and their views are respected and acted upon by relevant stakeholders
- Collaborations and partnerships between organisations and communities work in a way to maximise the positive outcomes of refugee integration
- Refugees are involved in the design of services and in the decisions that affect them or people with similar experiences
- Knowledge and information about refugees are central to service delivery and strategic decisions
- Refugees have access to various forms of activities to increase their influence over decisions that effect their lives
- Organisations adopt refugee participation as an operational value
- Refugees are recognised as key partners/stakeholders
- People working with refugee integration are supported through continuous learning practices
